Experience Canterbury’s Incredible Backcountry

Recognising the quality ski terrain that the Craigieburns and Arthur’s Pass National Parks have to offer, Anna Keeling Guiding provides backcountry skiing and recreational avalanche education in the Craigieburn Range and ski touring and ski mountaineering in Arthur’s Pass National Park.   Wide open alpine bowls, spectacular views of the Main Divide, alpine lakes and braided rivers plus easy access from ski areas and SH73, make snow riding optimal.  Anna and her professional ski guides can find powder or corn stashes and have the local knowledge to link up the many bowls for a single - or multi - day excursion.

The Craigieburn Range is easily accessed from Christchurch International Airport.  Porters is the closest ski area at 100km and the rest of the areas are all within 150km of Christchurch airport.  A weekend of skiing and touring is easy! Adventure and good times await in the rustic ski areas of the Craigieburn range.

Anna Keeling Guiding holds  DOC concessions and is Adventure Activity Safety audit certified for backcountry skiing, ski mountaineering and trekking in Craigieburn Forest Park and Arthurs Pass National Park.

Testimonials

"We are all still buzzing from the Tasman Saddle tour. Thanks again to the two of you [guides]. Nice, and not always easy, to blend leadership, safety, friendship and crazy times. You nailed it."

"Anna has guided a team of us ski touring in New Zealand for a couple of years now and we have found her absolutely brilliant. She is knowledgeable on the gear we are using, terrain we are entering, snow and weather conditions.
She is always professional, thorough and very organised. She has very good clear instructions, plans and procedures. As a guide she judges each individuals level of guidance needed and caters specially to that."

Juliana Trolove

"Anna is a superb educator; it was a well-paced and informative [avalanche] course. Anna went the extra mile to make sure everyone came out of the course with the learning required to keep extending their skills in back country travel safely and with confidence. Anna also had a great ability to work to the strengths of the group and keep us all focused, concentrating on being aware of the conditions and terrain and having fun."

Vicki Smith

"I LOVED the Anna Keeling guiding experience! Anna’s love and respect for the mountains shines through her teaching and guiding, giving the experience depth and making it fun. She never misses a learning opportunity, ensuring we kept adding to our own knowledge through experience as we went. She was able to accommodate all the various levels and abilities in our group and ensure we all felt included, encouraged and supported. Highly recommended!"

"Anna Keeling is a fantastic guide. Not only is she extremely competent and diligent in keeping her clients safe, but she is also really fun and interesting to spend time with. I could not possibly recommend a more outstanding guide to embark on a trip with."

Carol Baker

"Anna was very open to answering questions, give suggestions and provide instant feedback about technique and skills. She also did a great job of ensuring the safety of our group during the field sessions. Given the state of avalanche danger at the time, this is quite an impressive feat."

"Read your story on Amuri last night and was really impressed. You summed it up so well and painted such an accurate picture of a very cool little ski area.
Thank-you for the last two days. It was a great introduction to the backcountry and it was so good being exposed to the professionalism shown by you and Pete.
The highlight of course was the run down Goldies. It had us making plans the whole way home, and we all looked fabulous! Well done.

"The Craigieburn Haute Route was awesome. Anna and Stu sized us up quickly and delivered a great mix of adventure, entertainment and education from start to end. I had a blast, improved my skiing, learned a bit about the mountains and a lot about the value of a great guide!"
