Pack & Clothing Choices

We all have our favourite brands or pieces of kit. Over the years I have spent a lot of time in all conditions that the mountains will throw at you and I am pretty discerning about what I chose to wear and use.

Pack:

30-45L with a dedicated area for avalanche tools is best eg. BD Couloir or Macpac Huka

Layers:

  • Waterproof/wind proof outer layers
  • Warm hat, sun hat, buff, sunglasses and goggles (both), helmet
  • A warm puffy (either synthetic or down) to carry and put on if standing around
  • Mid layers – wool or synthetic thermals
  • Socks: Wear one pair, bring an extra
  • Gloves: Bring 2-3 pairs plus an extra pair of liner gloves. Gloves are more user friendly than mittens.
